intake make-over

No, this is not a gallery of large-breasted women. This is the place to post your questions about FL and FX model Harleys and other American V-Twin motorcycles.

That's the first time I've ever had anything censored by ImageShack.

I'm not going to jump on the barbie wagon here although she is worth it. I gotta jump in on the air cone,

those pointy cones work with less than 96 cubes but do have a rain issue but not 2 bad. The problem is they don't deliver enough air to a large motor and are mostly for show bikes with big motor bikes or stock twins.

If your ever going to get over 20 MPH, you might want to get a different filter and housing. I hate cars passing me and I would never restrict my bikes of air. It is easier to match the fuel ratio to the air ratio then to match the air ratio to the fuel ratio on a big inch motor. to much restriction of air will just make your motor run like crap and pop and run rich and cause soot in the pipes. Its just like your body, do some running from the man, or a good winded exercise and try to only breath through your nose and you won't get the needed air unless you open your mouth.
If you want to see a good example of that design with air flow, check out how the nose of a jet directs the air, those cones have the same effect and at speeds of 55 or more, most of your air will pass over the filter and the motor will be starved of air. Use that thing for show only or on your wifes bike.

thx for jumping in I appreciate your input myright, your logic makes sense. But for now, the cost of doing this just for an awesome look has me backing away. This bike runs extremely strong as is and the money can go to another expense that just raised it's ugly head. The belt on my bagger snapped yesterday, so I started the tear down last night...SHIT happens! Belt and may be pulleys adds up real fast.

Ended up just being a belt (plus gaskets, seals...) and rear pads. Damage about 277 and change....

BTW - what happened to Big? I'm not seeing his post anywhere.
